Tuason Racing Ultra 4 Endurance Race a big success
Fresh from a historic victory at the recently concluded GITI Formula V1 race, Luis Gono led the Clean Fuel Team in bagging the Ultra 4 Hour Endurance Race held at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga last November 24.
Gono, along with team members Yuya Motojima and Naoki Yamaya took the checkered flag first after engaging in an intense wheel-to-wheel battle the other teams in the Formula V1 category completing a total of 101 laps within 4:02:04:219.
But Clean Fuel’s laudable victory was not just a walk in the park. Parts Pro racing team led by ace driver Tyson Sy engaged Gono’s band in a fierce battle for supremacy until the former settled for 2nd place in the few final laps with a total time of 4:02:59:299. The other power drivers of the Parts Pro team were Carlos Anton and Stefano Marcelo.
The most unexpected casualty during the race was the FV1 Car No. 20 of Toyota Balintawak-Obengers led by international racing competitor Daniel Miranda which strongly defended 2nd position in most of the laps only to end up in the pit lane during the home stretch due to engine problem.
This gave the Front Row Racing team led by Charlie Cojuangco an opportunity to take over the second spot. However, it didn’t take long when lady luck deserted the team as the FV1 car No. 69 ran out of fuel even before the 4-hour time barrier had set in.
On the other hand, Dominic Roque, Alex Perez and Al Koizumi also of Clean Fuel Team took the 3rd place in the Formula Class V1.
Meanwhile, Mango Suites-OTR Racing Team of Red Diwa, Bjorn Ongtiaobok and Maila Alivia bagged the championship title for the invitational OMR spec car class, completing 95 laps in 4:04:04:003.
Finishing second was Toyota Quezon Ave Racing composed of Miko Maristela, Eduardo Pujol, and Rafale Lao (94 laps in 4:03:45:605) while Toyota Balintawak - Obengers Basti Escalante, Inigo Anton, and Elise Menorca took the 3rd place (with 92 in 4:02:359).
Over 60 drivers and 20 entries competed for what is dubbed as one of the “most star- studded”race grid in the country. The Ultra4 saw the coming together of different racing superstars from different generation and disciplines. This included the likes of Jojo Silverio, Stefano Marcelo, Carlos Anton and new generation champs DANIEL Miranda and Sean Smith.
The Ultra 4 was not exclusive for racing. Car enthusiasts feasted their eyes on more than 50 super cars participated in the track day event organized by Cars and Coffee. There were other fun activities lined up for other family members like the OMP Virtual Challenge simulator race game and Kiddie Road Safety Park that offered use of go-karts on inflatable track.
With the success of this year’s event, JP Tuason, president of Tuason Racing which organized the endurance race, is looking forward to another exciting season of the Ultra 4 Hour event in 2019.
This year’s event was supported by GITI, Clean Fuel, Philippine Airlines, Motul, Rotawheels, OMP racing gear, AEG, and Tuason Racing
