THE EXCITING 2016 Vios Cup season returns to the grid this weekend with the second leg happening here in Manila anew at the Filinvest City, Alabang in Muntinlupa City.
“In each season of the Vios Cup, Toyota makes it a point to stage this waku-doki festival in Manila. From McKinley West in Fort Bonifacio, to the Bayside area of Mall of Asia in Pasay, now to Filinvest City in Alabang. This 2016, we decided to bring it to a new venue in order for the motoring enthusiasts here in the south of Manila be able to witness the fun that motorsports brings!” said TMP President Satoru Suzuki in a statement.
This year, a total of 52 racers composed of 44 individual teams and eight celebrity racers are to battle it out and pit their driving skills against one another.
Race grids will consist of three main categories, namely, Super Sporting Class, Sporting Class and Promotional Class with each category crowning their respective champions.
Those who want to witness the event, which is open to the public, can expect celebrity drivers such as incoming season racer Arci Muñoz, Jericho Rosales, Sam YG, Joyce Pring, Phoemela Baranda, Fabio Ide and Jinno Rufino.
The event program will be hosted by racers and motorsports enthusiasts James Deakin and Gaby dela Merced.
For leg two of the Vios Cup, an event designed to relive the motorsports in the country, the racers will weave their way around Filinvest City, from Commerce Avenue to Promenade Street to ASEAN Drive to Parkway Ave and Filinvest Avenue.
In the previous leg at Clark Speedway, racer Andres Calma made waves in the Super Sporting Class with first and second-place finishes in Race 1 and 2 of the Cup, respectively. He is seen pacing the competition anew, challenged by Allan Uy, who produced solid fourth- and first-place finishes in the first leg.
Sports and TV personality Rufino ruled his category (promotional) in the previous leg, with Messrs. Ide and Rosales and Ms. Pring giving him a run for his money.
In the collision-marred Sporting Class, meanwhile, Paolo Rodriguez, Miko Maristela and Sean Velasco finished first, second and third, respectively, in Race 1 while Miguel Diaz, Velasco and Maristela were the top finishers in Race 2.
Apart from the race proper, fans can enjoy watching a drifting exhibition from some of the best drift drivers in the land, including Drift King Keiichi Tsuchiya, as well as meet-and-greets with the participating Vios Cup drivers.
